August/Sept Flying Week Report
Chris picked a good week, sandwiched between 2 pretty awful weeks.

We flew 7 days out of the 9. There were 109 flights and just over 67 hours flown. There were 24 flights of an hour or longer.

Bank holiday Monday lived up to its reputation and, because of the crosswind, was non flyable.

The week was generally not really X-Cable, but Gren took David S for a ride to Wattisham on the first Saturday. Tony B made the very best of Tuesday and got to Tibbenham and back. On Thursday Roger took Martin for a ride down to Woodbridge in the DG to make sure that Julia was hard at work.

Wednesday was a bit dull, but for a period in the afternoon a convergence crossed East Anglia and several of us had a lovely time for a couple of hours playing in it.

Thursday was the best day for soaring, but was pretty rough. There were 16 flights for 23hr 54 mins, 10 of the flights were over an hour. Paul in the Lak doing over 4 hours and Michael in the Ka6 finding that he could manage a 5 hours as he did 3.5 from the winch and felt he could easily of done quite a bit more.

A big thanks to Mark for tugging all week, to the detriment of the solo flying that he wanted to do. Also thanks to Andy Page, David S and Dave K for backseating and officiating on the weekdays

“The Wright Brothers, the Gliding Years” 22nd January 2011 at 17:30

“The Wright Brothers, the Gliding Years” 22nd January 2011 at 17:30 in the clubhouse

As part of the RGC winter programme and a bit of a ‘social’ for the winter months, Martin Raper will be telling the story of early years of the Wright brothers… when they were glider pilots!

Please come, be inspired and imagine what it was like to be one of the early pioneers of flight.

Please let me know whether you will be attending.

Thanks,

Andy Howells

p.s. Because preparing for one of these events takes a significant amount of work, we will be looking for a good level of commitment to attend before the event will go ahead.

Note: Paul Roche’s talk on flying in Australia will now be on the 19th February 2011. This is because he’s off flying in Australia during January …. Take some nice pictures for us Paul !!

New video clips
A couple of new video clips have been added to the download area.

One is an aerotow in the Puchacz from the rear and the other is an aerotow launch from the SW end of the runway (from winch driver's point of view).

Take a look here.

Parachute repacking
Tim Moran come down annually to repack Wormingfords chutes at their club site. He only charges £25 per chute. He is coming down during w/c 22/2 or 1/3. If any one wants their chute done let me know and I will arrnge to get them over to him. You save at least a fiver in these poor economic times.
